“True art comes from True agony.” Stevie Ray Vaughan

Last month I went to see Godfrey Townsend play at an annual Christmas Jam, totally amazing to see and hear such a creative and talented force in person… In-between his sets we were able to talk and our conversation flowed into how some artists create from agony, that within the guitar riffs, words and lyrics, in their voice and within the forms and expressions in painting, you can see and hear, and feel the pain and agony of the artist…

Those are the moments of connect and transference. The power and energy in the music, the depth in the lyrics and the hurt in the singers voice, the loneliness and searching within the painters brush strokes… For some artists these are cleansing moments working through the depths of despair to the energy of enlightenment and reset… And yet, for other artists those moments are all to brief in release, their agonies remain and fill with despair…

That night our conversation lead me to connect with Chris Cornell, one of music’s most gifted an electrifying artists who created some of the most soul gripping music ever heard… His voice, as powerful as the sum of all nature was his gifted force, often times pouring out his pain… This painting ‘Enough Said’, celebrates Chris Cornell’s gifts and reminds us to reach out to those who hurt…
